Anita Schafer

Executive Director, Head Coach
Anita Schafer is a founding member of the Tria Gladius Fencing Foundation and a fencer since her days in high school. Anita competed in girls foil for Maine West High School in Des Plaines, Illinois under Coach Karen Kenyon (National Coaches’ Association Midwest Region Fencing Coach of the Year, 1992). The MWHS girls foil team won first in the Great Lakes Conference three of four years that Anita attended Maine West. During her junior and senior years, Anita consistently placed in the top three for local and regional competitions and earned her way to the Illinois Prairie State Games (coached by Dr. Laurie Schiller, Northwestern University) and to the National Junior Olympics three times. Anita was eventually inducted into the Maine West High School Sports Hall of Fame for not only her accomplishments as a high school fencer but also lettering in other sports and working as a Student Athletic Trainer. Now as a Volunteer Fencing Coach and Instructor, Anita works with the Harrison High School Fencing Club, training high school students in the sport of fencing.
